Zanzibar
The Zanzibar Archipelago is comprised of several islands in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Tanzania, East Africa, a breathtaking spot to escape from the world and a perfect place to relax after a hectic safari.
Zanzibar is known as the “Spice Island” due to the many spices grown on the island’s plantations. It is an island steeped in culture and history. Stone Town is a historic trade center with Swahili and Islamic influences, full of breathtaking mosques, beautifully carved wooden doors, bustling markets and a maze of winding alleys.
OUR FAVOURITE EXPERIENCES IN Zanzibar
- While on a Spice Island a walking tour in a Spice Farm (shamba) is a must do. You wil see how the spices, herbs and fruits grow and are cultivated, smell and taste spices, herbs and tropical fruits such as clove, lemongrass, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla, coconuts, papaya, chili, black pepper, jackfruit, cardamom, cassava and oranges.
- Check out the night markets, after sunset the heart of Zanzibar’s historic Stone Town neighborhood transforms into a culinary playground.
- Take a local Dhow boat across to Changuu Island (also known as Prison Island). A tortoise sanctuary, which contains a large colony of giant tortoises imported from the Seychelles in the late 19th century.
